Basketball Victoria Child Safeguarding Code of Conduct

Giants Basketball Club adheres to the Basketball Victoria Child Safeguarding Code of Conduct.

Basketball Victoria has a zero-tolerance approach to child abuse and discrimination in any form (see Appendix 1 for Definitions of Abuse and the link to Victoria’s Equal Opportunity Act at the end of this Code). Basketball Victoria is committed to promoting the safety and wellbeing of children and young people in basketball by providing safe and inclusive environments. As part of this it is important that everyone involved in basketball is informed and aware of their responsibilities to protect and look after children and young people.

The Basketball Victoria Child Safeguarding Code of Conduct (this Code) aims to protect children and young people and reduce any opportunities for abuse or harm to occur. It aligns with Basketball Victoria’s Child Safeguarding Policy as well as the Victorian Child Safe Standards to help guide all Basketball Victoria participants on expected behaviour and how to best support children and young people. This Code applies to all people involved in Basketball Victoria’s activities, including:

  • Any adult involved in basketball.

  • Any young person involved in basketball who is in a position of providing guidance, advice or authority to other children and young people.

  • For the purpose of this Code, children and young person refers to anyone who is under the age of 18 years of age and involved in any Basketball Victoria or Member Organisation activity.
